Sanjay Kumar "The Print Man"

Sanjay Kumar, also known as "The Print Man," is a renowned artist celebrated for his innovative and experimental approach to manual printmaking. He is widely recognized for creating the world’s largest manual print on canvas and for pioneering the use of pure gold in printmaking during a workshop in Germany, a first in the world. Additionally, he achieved another milestone by using BhojPatra as a medium for printing, creating an award-winning piece that utilized pure silver as ink.

Born in 1972, Sanjay Kumar studied painting at the Government College of Arts in Chandigarh, where he completed his undergraduate studies in 1995. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in 1999 from Jamia Millia Islamia University. In 2000, he cleared the UGC NET and began his career as an Assistant Professor at Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades and awards, including a Research Grant from NZCC Patiala, a Research Fellowship from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, and the prestigious Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. His remarkable contribution to the arts was further recognized when he received the National Award from the Government of India, along with several other honors from organizations such as Chandigarh Administration, AIFACS, Lalit Kala Akademi, and the Rajasthan Government.

He has participated in several International Print Biennials in countries like Japan, Germany, China, and Serbia, solidifying his global presence in the printmaking world. His works are housed in prestigious collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) in India, the Print Museum in London, and museums in Germany and Japan. Art collectors from countries such as Spain, Moscow, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Australia also hold his works in their collections.

Sanjay Kumar's works have been showcased at numerous prestigious solo exhibitions at institutions such as Nehru Center, Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai, Lalit Kala Akademi in Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jaipur. His art has also been featured in various group shows across Chandigarh, Rohtak, Bhiwani, and internationally in Regional Art Exhibitions.

Sanjay Kumar continues to live and work in Chandigarh and Rohtak, where he remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of manual printmaking.
